Weekly High 5's (W/C 22nd June)

Silver Club - Ode to Lem

The second release from Sunderland lads and I have to say, my favourite track yet. Described as surf rock, the track is certainly that, but it does a lot more as well. Clocking in at over 6 minutes that sounds like a tough listen but it really isn’t, chilled out with well crafted riffs and fitting melodies. I’m not sure if what I’m going to say is how the band would describe their influences however there’s three bands I can hear in this track; The Beatles, The Kinks and Arctic monkeys. I know that last one might sound wrong

but listening to the vocal melodies it’s

reminiscent of Alex Turner, his solo

album and some slower AM stuff.

Tony Goff & The Broken Colours - Rearrange

Uplifting and catchy indie rock from Tony Goff & TBC, taking this track in a slightly more funk / soul direction with the big brass additions in the chorus being a highlight of the track for me. That brass section is reminiscent of when The Snuts added it to their track Juan Belmonte. Overall a massive sounding indie tune with catchy choruses and well structured melody lines, definitely one to add to the playlist and blast out whilst driving home from work for the weekend.

Be Quiet. Shout Loud! - Inside A Disco Dream

A catchy disco-rock anthem is what we expect from BQ.SL! and that’s exactly what they’ve delivered. Once again we’re treated to powerful vocal lines, foot stomping beats with massive anthemic riffs, blending glam elements into a massive indie-rock banger. Originally meant to be released as part of an album, which has since been pushed back, I’m really excited to see what comes with the rest of the tracks.

Church, Honey - Pity Sex

A lovely, chill intro with perfect vocals leads into a massive, atmospheric pop chorus. The track is based around the last night spent with an ex-lover and you can certainly tell with emotion pouring from all areas of the song. A great debut single from Church, Honey and I can’t wait to see what more they’ve got to come next.

Llovers - I Don't Want to Be Alone

More luscious guitar-pop from Llovers with their second single of the year full to the brim of cool vibes. Groovy bass lines lock in with the drums to allow for twinkly instrumental lines and well crafted pop melodies to run the track. This is just another example of the potential Llovers have, it’s a real wonder why they’re not a lot bigger already.
