Unison M&E's PR Do's and Don'ts

So, you've just written, recorded and produced music that you're proud of. What comes next? Who should you contact to get it heard by, not just the most people, but the right people? How do you reach the kind of audience that will appreciate your hard work and continue to support you long after it's release? What kind of publications, blogs and radio are available to you that would offer feedback and promote your music across the UK and beyond? We know that there's a lot of PR and marketers out there promising to do these things, but how do you spot the ones that are all talk?

We know how important your art is to you, and your trust should not be taken for granted. With this in mind we've summarised our key values and demonstrated how it sets us apart from a lot of other PR organisations out there, many of which are looking to do the bare minimum to justify taking your money.

We Don’t Just CC a list of editors and blogs into a generic email and hope for the best…

We Do Cultivate relationships with editors and blogs so that we can tailor our approach and how we market your release. Our list of contacts has been built and refined over time so that we know where to send your release and how to get the best quality coverage.

We Don’t Just take your money and leave you in the dark...

We Do Keep you involved and informed throughout our marketing process, making sure you’re in the loop and know your release is being handled with the respect it deserves. We want to make sure you are comfortable with how we are handling your music, and we want to involve you in the process as much as you are willing to be. Would like to be?

We Don’t Take shortcuts and rely on dubious playlists or bots to get your music heard… We Do Work hard to build up contacts within radio stations across the UK, as well as sourcing tastemakers and playlists with a genuine following who will build your audience naturally. We understand how overwhelming the world of streaming and online playlists can be, but we don’t fall into the trap of making unrealistic promises or forging results using bots or fake accounts.

We Don’t Just end the relationship with our clients once the campaign is complete…

We Do Offer genuine feedback and support on how to progress on your own. We are always happy to give tailored advice and resources to help you with the next steps, such as social media management and how to market yourself between releases, until that next campaign comes around. But, if you’d like to move away from PR and want to do more yourself we’d love to help and offer advice!

Every musician and every release is unique in its own way. Having a bespoke, personalised approach to PR means that we can adjust our strategies to fit any situation and make sure that you capitalise on the results. Our work has benefited a wide range of musicians at varying levels and styles, so every campaign we carry out is unique and exciting!
