Track Review: Valley Onda - Gold

Originating in Sydney's Inner West, Valley Onda are 4 piece, Psychedelic/Indie Rock ensemble. Jordan, Galen, Michiya and Ben met at an inner city farming project in their formative years, and now aim to plant their seeds in the music industry with their alternative spin and electronic flourishes.

Their new single, 'Gold', explores the idea of taking small steps to escape the feeling of powerlessness, a feeling that I'm sure we all can relate to on some level. A satisfyingly funky groove leads us into the premise of the song. Steady, stable and quite frankly irresistible in its efforts to make you bop your head. Every intricate detail as important as the other. Following with grungy guitars and suspenseful chord patterns, we’re then introduced to a breathy, exhausted vocal from Jordan Wilson. 'I think I stayed way too long', the Sydney singer opens the conversation with this leading statement. It sets the narrative and tone of the song and the rest of the lyrics follow accordingly. The lyrics feel like Jordan is in a state of reflection, and the character behind his voice makes you feel like your experiencing the same self-searching process. Rather than just hearing about his. The modestly ostentatious percussion is a catalyst throughout the groovy soundscape. The dreamy yet crisp production complements this already well thought-out and creatively structured piece.

'Gold' is a culmination of skill, creativity and finesse, all the while being a complete masterclass on how important setting the right mood for a song can be.
